LEANER THIS YEAR!
THINNER THIS YEAR is off to a terrific start… some 60,000 copies thus far. Jen and I are little piggies, of course, and wish there were even more. But our publisher tells us that this puts us ahead of 99.9% of all new books published so far this year. Fine. But it still makes us nuts that so many people buy so many diet books that we see as faddish, un-scientific and ineffectual. Thinner works, for heaven’s sake! And it’s true! So why do so many folks still buy into nostrums and fads? But hey, no whining. A bunch of you are here, and we tend to think that Thinner will be around for a long, long time. We’ll see.
Jen and I both wish, a bit wistfully, that we’d called our book “LEANER THIS YEAR”, our original title. “Leaner” is a little closer to what we really have in mind: making you healthier, broadly fitter, more energetic, more optimistic andthinner. Nutrition – and weight management – is enormously important, obviously. But we’d like to emphasize that this is the whole life handbook, the manual for making the second half of your life radically better. And exercise, for example, is as important to that as anything. We are told by public relations experts that people don’t want to hear about exercise. Tough. Exercise is the flywheel of the good life and weight loss. And it is at the heart of our book, just as surely as it ought to be at the heart of your life. Thin is great…we all want to be thin. But LEAN is more to the point because it suggests fit as well as thin. You want to be fit, not just to look adorable (that counts of course) but to make your body work right. The way it was designed to work.
Speaking of exercise, take a look at the stuff on this site about Bill Fabrocini’s new DVDs, which illustrate exquisitely his “preparation for movement” chapter. We think Bill’s guidance to strength training is ground breaking and deeply important. The book tells his story, but the dvd makes it real and easier to follow. Take a peek and think about ordering one. PREPARATION FOR MOVEMENT (the first dvd, available now) is perhaps the most important part of my current regimen. Like Bill, I do it every day, and it has had a ton to do with making me more flexible and pain free. I am actually skiing better (at a modest 78) than I have for the last few years, mostly because I am more flexible. I have much, much less joint pain, too. Almost none, in fact. That’s huge. It’s hard to believe that these relatively simple exercises matter so much, but they do. Try ‘em. Up the Revolution!
By the way, many of you have wanted to buy a bunch of books. Contact email@example.com for a big discount on ten or more.
This site is intended to be a place where we can supplement and refresh information in the book with articles, personal experience and so on. We hope it will be a gathering place for people who care about this stuff… where we can talk to and maybe motivate one another as we try to do this enormously important work. A community of sorts. Tell us about your successes and failures… send us a recipe that makes kale edible (good luck, I say)… any damn thing to keep us all going.
There is going to be a modest commercial side to all this., too. We are passionate about Bill Fabrocini’s strength training dvds, for example… think they are an important adjunct to his chapters. Same with Riggs and aerobics and his on-line training for some. We’ll also sell or promote a very few products like TRX exercise devices which we are particularly devoted to. Anything we plug – and we won’t plug much – is because we think it is seriously good. If it helps to pay for the site… Yippee Skippee! We can bear that.
But mostly this is intended to be a site where you can explore and promote what we think is one of the most important movements in our time… the REVOLUTION IN BEHAVIOR that is going to save the country from needless bankruptcy and make your life powerful and sweet!
